Cairn bosses were doing their best not to mention the "S" word during their presentations (Cairn bought half of its oil-rich Indian concession from Shell for just $7.25m two years ago).

Gammell had to introduce exploration director Mike Watts as well as director of engineering and operations Phil Tracy. He got one name right but (to howls of laughter) inevitably stumbled, welcoming one "Phil Watts."
