Tullow Oil is a joint bidder with a US energy firm, according to a weekend report, for 316m euro of North Sea oil assets being sold by Shell and Exxon.

The company has teamed up with Apache Oil, the Sunday Tribune says.

It adds that they are understood to be the only remaining bidders after a number of other companies pulled out.

The assets being sold are the Schooner and Ketch oil and gas fields.

Originally, Gaz de France, the German utility Eon and a Danish oil firm called Dong were interested.

They all subsequently pulled out after a number of technical issues arose in relation to the fields.

Tullow is already a part owner of Caister Murdoch System which receives income from the two fields.

It has declined to comment on the reported joint bid for the fields.
