SHELL'S HOLLOW STATEMENT OF GENERAL BUSINESS PRINCIPLES: LIKE A BET WITH A BOOKIE BINDING IN HONOUR ONLY

Published below is a letter to Shell Group Chairman Mark Moody-Stuart dated 10 October 1998 relating to Shell's code of ethics (its "Statement the General Business Principles") mentioned in the letter from Sheila Gee, plus a related letter from Shell General Counsel Richard Wiseman confirming that the STATEMENT has no legal standing. Like a bet with a bookie it is binding in honour only. Mr Wiseman, who is now a Shell director, confirmed in writing earlier this year, 2004, that the legal status of the STATEMENT remains the same; basically worthless.
