TheEdgeDaily.com: Shell Malaysia’s Jintan gas field comes onstream (ShellNews.net)

Shell Malaysia's Jintan gas field, located about 275km northwest of Bintulu, came on-stream on Aug 31.

"Jintan is the second gas field brought into production, following Serai which came on-stream in June 2004, under the SK8 production sharing contract, offshore Sarawak," said Shell Malaysia chairman Jon Chadwick.

The participants in the production-sharing contract are the operator, Shell Oil & Gas Malaysia (37.5%), Nippon Oil Explorations (Sarawak) Ltd (37.5%) and Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd (25%).

Shell said the Jintan field was discovered in 1992. It was designed as an unmanned satellite to the nearby M1 gas production facilities, supplying feed gas to Petroliam Nasional Bhd's third liquefied natural gas plant -- MLNG Tiga -- in Bintulu.

It has an allocated capacity of 670 million standard cubic feet per day at M1. Together with Serai production, a total of 970 million standard cubic feet per day of gas will now be supplied by the SK8 production contract to MLNG Tiga.
