Ireland On-Line: Pipeline protesters seek alternative presents: “They are some of items needed by the Rossport Solidarity Camp which last summer saw protesters from around the world gather to support locals in the fight against the oil giant’s construction of the pipeline.”: “Supporters can buy a greetings card that depicts the pipeline on eBay, after campaigners put the illegally installed section of pipe up for internet auction.”: Tuesday 20 December 2005

Campaigners against Shell’s onshore gas pipeline and refinery in Co Mayo are offering some alternative Christmas present ideas in support of their cause, including bolt-cutters, night-vision goggles, sacks of lentils and a wind turbine.

They are some of items needed by the Rossport Solidarity Camp which last summer saw protesters from around the world gather to support locals in the fight against the oil giant’s construction of the pipeline.

The campaigners are due to set up camp again in the spring and need a variety of equipment to accommodate two settlements housing up to 50 people at any one time.

Dublin Shell to Sea have issued a set of gift vouchers which enable supporters to donate money towards the items needed by the solidarity camp.

Digital cameras and waterproof clothing are also featured on the vouchers.

Supporters can buy a greetings card that depicts the pipeline on eBay, after campaigners put the illegally installed section of pipe up for internet auction.

The back of the card shows a map of the Erris region.

The gift vouchers and cards are available at Connolly Books on Millennium Bridge Walkway and the Sinn Fein bookshop on Parnell Square.
