A SIGNED copy of a 'Free the Rossport Five' bodhran is set to go up for auction at over 5,000.

The instrument is being sold to raise money for the men, who became heroes when they took on Shell.

Musician Eamonn Walsh came up with the fund-raising plan for the five, who were locked up for 13 weeks, and are still locked in battle with the oil company over an onshore pipeline. The row is delaying the transmission of Corrib Gas to a proposed terminal in Mayo.

The money-making bodhran, also signed by Frances Black and Damien Dempsey, was played at a concert for the five protesters to celebrate their release, at the Ambassador in Dublin.

Freed Vincent McGrath, an accordion player, regaled his former jailmates with his tunes, while Eamonn drummed out the old Irish melody 'Tabhair dom do Laimh'.

Bidders for the bodhran may contact Eamonn Walsh on 087 2775317 or email eamonn.walsh@ntlworld.ie
