Lloyds List: Shell and Exxon a step nearer on Merganser: “SHELL and ExxonMobil have submitted an environmental statement to the Department of Trade and Industry for the Merganser field development in the North Sea, writes Martyn Wingrove.”: Tuesday Oct 25, 2005

SHELL and ExxonMobil have submitted an environmental statement to the Department of Trade and Industry for the Merganser field development in the North Sea, writes Martyn Wingrove.

Shell intends to develop the gas-condensate field, which lies in blocks 22'30a and 22'25a, as a satellite to the Shearwater platform, via the Scoter subsea facilities, by October 2006 with two subsea wells.

The Anglo-Dutch oil major has booked up drilling semi-submersible JW McLean to drill the wells from March next year and will install the subsea systems in July to September.

There will be a 3.8 km, eight-inch pipeline from Merganser to the nearby Scoter field with another 10 km line to Shearwater, where Shell will do topside modifications to expand production capacity.

Meanwhile Oilexco and Nexen are testing the Black Horse appraisal well in the central North Sea to find another satellite to the Scott platform.
