Shell is facing a court battle tomorrow in the Netherlands before completing the controversial merger of Shell Transport & Trading with Royal Dutch Petroleum.

A small minority of British holders in RDP have forced Shell to offer a loan note so they will not have to pay a multi-million pound capital gains tax bill.

Yesterday Shell confirmed that Trafalgar, a leading London-based hedge fund, is trying to scupper the merger, which should be approved at an extraordinary meeting this week.
