HOUSTON: Shell Oil Company (Shell) and Motiva Enterprises L.L.C. (Motiva) today announced that, along with their employees and retirees, they have raised more than $5 million for the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast (United Way).

At a ceremony held at One Shell Plaza, Lynn Laverty Elsenhans, executive vice president of global manufacturing, president of Shell Oil Company and U.S. country chair, presented a check for $2.5 million to Jackie Martin, president of the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast. This amount represents the corporate matching pledge for the Houston area campaign.

For the eleventh consecutive year, total giving by Shell and its area businesses to the United Way has exceeded the $5 million mark. Nationwide, Shell and Motiva generated more than $7 million for various United Way organizations for the 2004-05 campaign.

"We are pleased that our collective efforts have yielded solid results for the United Way in Houston and its many excellent agencies that serve this community," Elsenhans said. "This campaign underscores the important role that the private sector has in ensuring that critical-service dollars are available when needed. I thank our employees and retirees for their contributions."

Since 1994, Shell companies' giving campaigns have resulted in more than $64 million being pledged to the United Way of the Texas Gulf Coast.
