WADING RIVER, Long Island (AP)--Long Island Democratic Congressman Tim Bishop has come out against the 1,200 foot long liquid natural gas terminal proposed for Long Island Sound.

The terminal by Shell Oil (SC) and Canada Gas would be built by Broadwater Energy of Houston. The terminal would be the size of a large luxury liner, anchored about nine miles from Wading River in Suffolk County.

Congressman Bishop is echoing the concerns of others - by saying the terminal would be an easy target for terrorists.

Environmental groups have been mounting a campaign against the terminal, saying the 25 miles of pipeline needed to connect to the mainland would disturb marine life. And they say liquid natural gas so close to a populated area would be dangerous.

Shell Oil and Canada Gas say the terminal would be safe.
