A major gas field expected to provide 3pc of the UK's supplies started production off the north-east coast of Scotland. The Goldeneye field is owned by Shell, Esso, Palladin Resources and Centrica.

Yukos sell-off

Yuganskneftegaz, the chief production unit of oil giant Yukos, will be auctioned on November 22 with a start price of $7.5billion, the amount it owes in back-taxes, says a plan drawn up by Russian officials.
