ALTHOUGH it maintains otherwise, Shell is effectively going Dutch with its merger of its two joint venture units, Royal Dutch and the Shell Transport & Trading Company.
From May, the big decisions will be taken by a new board in The Hague, which has seven Dutch members and only four Britons. Investors in the Royal Dutch unit of the 97-year-old joint venture will own 60 per cent of Royal Dutch Shell plc, which will be listed in London. The remaining 40 per cent will be held by investors in Shell, the business’s UK division.
Although the group will next year still hold one AGM in Britain and one in the Netherlands, from 2006 it will hold AGMs only in The Hague.
