HUNDREDS of apprentices have been employed around Geelong thanks to a partnership between Shell Refinery and G-Force Recruitment.
A strong supporter of the Target 100 initiative, Shell began providing financial support to G-Force in 1994 and has so far donated more than $800,000.
Those funds have allowed 19 people to gain apprenticeships in 22 different trades.
G-Force chairman of directors Vaz Juchima said the Shell funds provided an incentive to employers who were hesitant about taking on an apprentice.
``Hundreds of apprentices were put through a range of trades ranging from electricians to chefs to carpenters,'' Mr Juchima said.
``Those apprentices went to employers throughout the area and were in trades ranging from electricians to chefs to carpenters.''
Shell Refinery manager Geoff Ellison said the company trained 11 apprentices and was taking on an extra two in 2005 to bring that number to 13.
``A number of apprentices have made Shell their chosen employer and have gone on to become supervisors and trainers, gaining degrees and becoming section leaders in various departments,'' Mr Ellison said.
