The Guardian: Slow starters
Saturday June 5, 2004
While many students toy with the idea of starting their own business, it's employees already working for organisations who are more likely to explore launching a start-up, according to a survey by Shell LiveWire. The funder, which supports business start-ups, says 45% of the enquiries it receives comes from employees, while the unemployed and those at college or university account for 22% and 19% respectively. Launching a manufacturing-led business accounted for only 10% of all enquiries, retail-led business accounted for 29%, whilst service-led businesses accounted for 61% of all enquiries.
