SHELL IS to raise just under pounds 1bn by selling its shareholding in the Netherlands gas transmission system.

The Dutch government is paying a total of EUR2.78bn (pounds 1.93bn) to acquire the stakes in the Gasunie pipeline network owned by Shell and ExxonMobil.

Shell has embarked on a two-year programme to raise pounds 10bn-$12bn from asset sales.
