TMCnet.com: ESRI Reaches Groundbreaking Agreement with Shell (ShellNews.net) Posted 18 Dec 04
REDLANDS, Calif. --(Business Wire)-- Building upon a successful Multinational Enterprise contract signed 4 years ago, ESRI and Shell International Exploration and Production B.V. have agreed to expand their relationship and implement a comprehensive agreement under which Shell and all its affiliates worldwide can access all of ESRI's software products.
The global agreement allows Shell to deploy and support ESRI software throughout its organization. The enterprise solution comprises ESRI's full line of software including the ArcGIS family of desktop (ArcView, ArcEditor, and ArcInfo) and server (ArcIMS, ArcSDE, and ArcGIS Server) products. Support is provided by dedicated Shell staff and a network of regionalized ESRI distributor technical support centers to cover the multiple time zones of Shell's global business.
The Shell agreement is believed to be the first of its kind in the geographic information system (GIS) and energy industries. Shell uses GIS technology to integrate and visualize complex business information from many different sources and produce cartographic maps of its assets, operations, and environments around the world. The company's GIS framework is currently being extended into a corporate spatial data infrastructure in which any authorized user on the corporate Intranet will have access to a one-stop portal integrating GIS layers, documents, and company databases in a fully transparent manner.
Commented ESRI President Jack Dangermond, "We are honored that Shell has chosen to further expand our relationship."
