LAGOS (AFP) - Community unrest in the Niger Delta has forced oil giants Shell and ChevronTexaco to suspend exports totalling 134,000 barrels of oil per day from Nigeria, company spokesmen said.
A Shell spokesman said that the company had declared a "force majeure" to warn clients that it would not be able to meet export contracts from its Bonny terminal. ChevronTexaco said it was also affected by the shut down.
