Nigerian oil workers have begun a surprise two-day strike at oil giant Royal Dutch Shell Group to protest what they say are company plans to cut jobs.
A Shell spokeswoman told VOA Thursday the work stoppage does not appear to have had any impact on the company's operations in Nigeria.
The spokeswoman said Shell is planning what it calls a reorganization and streamlining program which, she acknowledged, could cause some job losses in Nigeria.
However, she said the company has not announced any specific plans in that regard.
Reports from Nigeria say Shell is planning to cut more than 1,000 jobs in the West African country.
