Middle East North Africa Financial Network: Ireland slaps Shell's wrist over pipeline: “The pipeline is part of the energy company's $1 billion Corrib natural gas project, which it wants to link to an onshore refinery. The government order has forced RDS to halt work on other parts of the Corrib project.”: Posted Wednesday 3 August 2005
DUBLIN, Ireland, Aug. 2 (UPI) -- Ireland told Royal Dutch Shell to dismantle a natural gas pipeline that is essential to develop a big offshore project, the Telegraph reported Tuesday.
The government said the energy company had built about 2 miles of pipeline in northern County Mayo without consent.
The pipeline is part of the energy company's $1 billion Corrib natural gas project, which it wants to link to an onshore refinery. The government order has forced RDS to halt work on other parts of the Corrib project.
The company, which says it has complied with all relevant laws and regulations, said the government's dismantling order will cost 91 people their jobs.
